Shawarmas at Carter Blue – Carter Road Bandra

After telling my friend paul about the shawarma at Maroosh . He recommended that i try the shawarmas at Carter blue.

As the Torrps did not fill me i decided to try the shawarmas .

The guys are extremely generous with the chicken they put into the shawarmas (no wonder this place is a favourite with the rizvi college crowd) .

The place is a tiny open air place just opposite to cafe coffee day at Carter Road. with three tables with four chairs each .You can also order at home if you live in bandra.

The chicken and mutton shawarmas were good with the hummus, garlic sauce and marinated veggie sticks.

The only negative point eating there is there was a huge amount of flies during the rains. (I guess it is better to order at home or eat in your car :) )

Carters Blue Menu – April 2011 – Carter Road – Bandra

Lunch at Torrp it up – Bandra

After reading about the new restaurant called Toorp it up and getting their flyer in the mail ,we decided to check out the place . The places is Near Mini Punjab Restaurant 33rd road. From linking road take a right (when coming from mahim) at KFC and go straight till the road starts going uphill. You will find this place in the last buuilding to the right.

The places is tiny with aluminium chairs and have the veggies and chickens placed just like subway . The prices are way higher than subway and the quantity and taste does not match the price of the Torrp or wrap (110,100 Rupees)

The walls have huge blow up images of the torrps which really make increase your expectations. It is self service with one guy making the warps and torrps and one lady as the cashier. You need to keep instructing the guy what you want in your torrps , do you want mustard? do you want mayo? do you want it grilled? If you are trying it out for the first time this is a daunting task.

If you like a sprinkle of chicken ,a  few pieces of various veggies and some mayo and mustard then this is the place for you. If you are looking for serious quantities of chicken in your wraps and torrps then take a rickshaw to carter road and have a shawarma :) .

Nisarga Bhraman Trek & Plantation at Peb Fort 4th July 2010

The Human race has progressed at a very rapid pace since the Industrial Revolution and the benefits are visible for all to see. It is said that there is always a “Cost” associated with “Progress” and we have paid a heavy price in terms of rapid destruction of our Green Cover!

We at Nisarga Bhraman have decided to do our bit and plant a few saplings and seeds atop Fort Peb on 4th July 2010.

Here is some info About Peb:

Type: Hill Fort
Height: 2100 Feet above MSL (Approx)
Grade: Medium
District: Raigad
Region: Karjat
Base Village: Neral

Peb: Located in the same mountain range as Matheran, Peb fort is a enjoyable trek for a day’s outing.

The fort derives it name from the Goddess ‘Pebi’; Peb is also called ‘Vikatgad’ for its supposed shape of the Elephant Headed God, ‘Ganesh’. The trek to the top involves surmounting a small rock patch and a ladder. The fort is famous for its caves which are maintained by disciples of Swami Samartha and the meditation chambers carved out from the rock inside the mountain. To get inside the meditation chamber, one has to crawl through a narrow passage in the rock and then climb down into the meditation chamber. The chamber is very well maintained with tiles on the floor for ppl to sit and meditate.

The fort also has a temple dedicated to Swami Samartha on the top and has the footwear or ‘Padukas’ worn by the great saint kept on the top. The view of the entire Neral and Karjat region from the top is worth the climb. Another attraction of the trek is the only standing Bastion or Buruj facing the Panorama point of Matheran, the view from here is just too beautiful to describe.

Plan:Rendezvous: 06.40hrs (Sharp) on Sunday, 4th July 10 at Dadar Station (Central) P.F no.4 towards Extreme Thane (North) end WITH your own Return Ticket till Karjat. The train is a Karjat Fast leaving Dadar at 07.03 hrs, halting at Kurla, Ghatkopar, Thane, Dombivali, Kalyan, and all stations thereafter.

he Itinerary for the trek is as as given below: Sunday
> Travel to Neral by local train (~1.5 hrs)
> Round of Introductions, distribution of morning refreshments and Briefing on Rules and Regulations(~0.25hrs)
> Travel from Neral to Matheran by Taxi (~0.15 hrs)
> Trek From Dasturi Naka to Peb (~1 hrs)
> Tree Plantation, sight seeing (~2 hrs)
> Descend towards Neral end of the Fort and visit caves and have lunch. (~1 hrs)
> Start getting down at Neral side (~1.5 hrs)
> Reach neral station to catch the train

We should be back in Mumbai by 7:30 PM tentatively.

The cost of this trek would be Rs.100/- for members and Rs. 120/- for Non-members and would include Travel from Neral to Matheran and Morning refreshments.

If interested, please contact on the nos. below for registration latest by Saturday night (3rd July 10):

TMI : Trek to Chanderi on 4th of July 2010 with Trek Mates India

TMI : Trek To Chanderi on 4th July 2010
Little info about the fort
Type:
Hill Fort
Height: 2330 Feet above MSL (Approx)
Grade: medium- hard
Base Village: ChinchawliRange: Matheran

Chanderi is an ancient army fort situated near Vangani (Kalyan).
There are not much remnants on the top except few water tanks and shatters stones.
Lots of water streams and rocky path to the fort through waterfalls make the fort really interesting.
The view from the top is really alluring, one can observe Karnala, Prabalgad, Irshalgad, Manikgad, Peb, Matheran, Nakhind, Navra navri, Tavli ect from the top.
There is no significant history attached to this fort. Near the caves on the fort are visible some remnants of fortification. This is the only sign to designate Chanderi as a fort. In May 1656, Shivaji Maharaj conquered all territory up to Kalyan-Bhiwandi-Rairi. This was when this fort came under the rule of the Marathas.
Lack of development, low water storage areas, absence of significant constructions, limited facilities for people to stay and extremely difficult approach road seem to suggest that rather than a fort, this was possibly a military base.
“Most of the regular trekkers have been to chanderi from Chinchawli side, hence to bring some difference in the itinerary; we will be scaling Chanderi from Panvel side and be descending by the regular route to chinchawli village.”

The tentative itinerary for the Trek is as given below:

Timing of the Panvel local will be provided.
Breakfast and reach the base village by Tum-tum.
