Grade: Difficult but Easy Base Village:Khandas, Nanadgaon

Places to See :-

Lord Shiva Temple : Bhimashankar Temple is located in the village of Bhorgiri 50 km north west of Khed, near Pune. There is a beautiful temple of Lord Shiva which is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India. It is a modest yet graceful temple and it dates back to mid 18th century. The shikhara of the temple was built by Nana Phadnavis. This temple is closely associated with the legend of Shiva slaying the demon Tripurasura associated with the invincible flying citadels Tripuras. Shiva is said to have taken abode in the Bhima form, upon the request of the Gods, on the crest of the Sahyadri hills, and the sweat that poured forth from his body after the battle is said to have formed the Bhimarathi river. Bhimashankar is also the source of the Bhima river, which flows south east and merges with the Krishna river near Raichur.

A big size bell in Hemadpanthi structure: – Built by Nana Phadanavis is also a feature of Bhimashankar.

Other equally important places: – Hanuman Lake, Gupt Bhimashankar, Sakshi Vinayak ,Origin of River Bhima, Nag Phani from where one can see the view of the Peth fort and Padhar , Bombay Point, and lot more.

Bhimashankar is conserved forest area and wildlife sanctuary where a variety of birds, animals, flowers, plants can be seen. A rare animal “Shekru” can be found in deep woods. Bhimashankar is worth visited for jungle lovers and trekkers as well as for pilgrims.

Routes to Bhimashankar:-

There are two routes to Bhimashankar from the base village of Khandas, which are most popular among trekkers.

1. Ganesh Ghat – There is a bridge around 2 km from Khandas, and the track going to the right from the bridge is the Ganesh Ghat route. This is the easiest and the longest route to Bhimashankar. Within an hour of trekking along this route you will reach a Ganesh temple. The route ahead will take around 3 hours until you reach the plateau of Bhimashankar, there is a small pond dug out in the ground called ‘Hanuman Tal’. This trek is five hours to six hours long.

2. Shidi (ladder) Route – This one is a shorter route, but difficult especially in the monsoons. The route gets its name from the ladders placed on the steepest parts. The route going to the left of the bridge (mentioned in Ganesh Ghat) goes to the village. On moving ahead you will reach a well, take a left from there to Shidi ghat. Within the first two hours of climbing you will pass three ladders. You will reach a junction where both the routes – Ganesh ghat and Shidi – merge.

There are many huts providing food and tea in middle of trek route. A further 1 ½ hour trek takes us besides a pond. The road, which goes to the left from this pond, takes us to the temple.

Orphan Teaches Poor – being the change she wants to see in the world

A heartwarming story to tell you. A young Indian orphan is helping underprivileged kids in Amritsar, India get a good education. Here’s a look at the life of Pearl Jasra.

Many of these kids are orphans or come from poor families living in the slums. But they are able to attend a class thanks to the efforts of 22-year-old Pearl Jasra. Pearl lost her parents just before she reached her teenage years. She founded this non-profit voluntary forum named “Initiative for Viable Education.” Now with her meager resources she runs four batches of classes in a day. [Pearl Jasra, Teacher]: “Their parents are poor and can’t afford the cost of education. Even though the parents want to educate their children, it is a financial burden. So I am in touch with prominent people of our area and they also know about my work, so along with them they get these children enrolled in nearby schools. I try my best to help these children get a mainstream education.” Apart from teaching children reading, writing and arithmetic, she acts as a mentor and counselor. [Tarachand, Punjab Resident]: “She is doing good work by helping poor people and there are some orphans, too. There is nobody to teach them so she is doing this humanitarian work, and this is the way it should be done everything should be shared with each other.” Despite all the odds, Pearl says she’s determined to carry on her charitable work getting inspiration from the late Mahatma Gandhi.

Lunch at cafe mangii – Bandra

From the outside cafe mangii looks really non de-script .The inside is cozy and really well designed – giving it a real Mediterranean feel with white wall, an old grandfathers clock, lamps etc. The music – south American – Spanish give a nice relaxed feel to the place. As this place has a bar you can have pizza with wine – unlike other places. The place starts at 12 pm and by 1.30 it is really quite full on weekday – One weekends i am sure this place is packed to the hilt.
The prices are steep and the place is probably frequented by page 3 people as it give you privacy and also a nice place to meet in the evening. Also a great place for expats to chill out in the evening .

The olive oil bottle is unique with dark olive oil in the inner container and lighter olive oil in the outer container. You can pour it on your bread and other food – just like in italy.

We ordered a veg pizza – the pizza was huge with a thin crust – they have an open oven so if you sit on the right of the restaurant you can see them taking out the pizza from the oven . The crust was really thin and you can ful the whole pizza slice. The give bread with pieces of olive inside as a side dish with the meal.

We also tried a chicken dish.

The dessert Tiramisu is the best in mumbai . The cream fluffy, the cake dipped in rum , a sprinkle of coffee . And a long wafer straw . Even candies and the other places do not come close to the dessert (Tiramisu) at this place.

But the way the place was fulling up i can see this is a very popular place . For 1000 Rs for two if you can afford it this can be a regular hangout.
