ENGAGE WITH ART
“Engage with Art” is a progression of 4 workshops that will look at famous western artists of the 20th Century (like Picasso, Matisse, Frieda Kahlo etc) and their iconographic paintings as a starting point for discussion on art and its elements.
Each workshop will focus on specific Artist(s) and through his/their work we will talk about specific theme(s) like colour & rhythm, layering & texture, symbol &narrative etc. We will discuss the artist’s intent as well as debate on what a work of art tells us, especially how it makes us feel.
Using the art as an inspiration, we will create our own piece(s) by the end of each session.
AGE GROUP:
No previous knowledge is required for the class, but a curious mind, an active imagination and a desire to create is welcome.
BENEFITS FOR THE STUDENTS:
The goal of this workshop is two-fold: First aim is to “Learn by Seeing”- to discuss and analyse iconographic masterpieces and appreciate the big ideas behind it. Second is to “Absorb by Doing” – to use the art seen as a springboard to create unique pieces. This process will allow for fresh perspective and deeper insight into what we have seen.
Finally “Engage with Art” about sharing ideas and finding our own creative voice.
